HISTORY

             Urdu as a foundation course was introduced in the afternoonsession in the year 1998. Dr. (Mrs) ZakiraUmmeShehla, Head, Department of Urdu (Forenoonsession) took charge of the department for a period of 4 months.

  • Instituted (got affiliated) in the year 1998.
  • Basheera Sultana was the Head & Associate professor (Afternoon Session) from 1999 till February 2019 and was shifted to forenoon session.
  • Nikhath Sultana is the Assistant professor (Forenoon Session) from August 2007 to February 2019 and promoted as Head & Assistant Professor (Afternoon Session) from March 2019 till date.

 

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Extra coaching is given to students who possess the ability to excel to produce rank holders.
  • Students are encouraged and tutored to participate in the intercollegiate and inter departmental competitions conducted by the department.

  • STAFF ACHIEVEMENT: Dr. Nikhath Sultana has been awarded Ph.D. in Urdu on 04 March 2019.
VISION

It has always been my dream to encourage learning of Urdu language and literature with the support of UGC, this vision of mine is to fulfil the higher aims and to achieve the higher goals and to promote the development of Urdu language, the department of Urdu proposes to introduce the following courses;

  1. To implement Urdu language and literature as a mainstream course in UG and PG levels (B.A. and M.A. Urdu literature).

2. To start functional Urdu course.

3. One-year diploma course in Urdu

a) Duration Of the course – 1 year

b) Subject offered – 3 papers (180 hrs)

 Urdu sahafat (Journalism) paper 1 (60hrs)

 Techniques of translation paper 2 (60hrs)

 Computer Applications paper 3 (60hrs)

c) Practical (Internship) – Programming in Computers (120hrs)

d) Curriculum Development Programme:

i. Learning Programme: Great moral value could be imparted to the downtrodden, to bring an awareness about right moral values and cultural heritage by teaching the reformatory poems of two great poets Moulana Hali and Allama Iqbal, so that they can achieve higher goals.

ii. Learning programme could be conducted to promote and develop the functional Urdu language. This Diploma course in Urdu will be a job oriented which will provide various opportunities for the students. After the completion of the course the students can take up jobs for the News readers, translators and also a programmer in Urdu calligraphy. This course could be started with the co-sponsorship of National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Delhi.

 

4. Implementing B.A., correspondence course in Urdu.

 

5. Research work could be started in the department of Urdu, encouraging candidates to pursue M. Phil and Ph.D. course under the guidance of Dr. Nikhath Sultana.

 

6. A quarterly Urdu magazine to be brought by the Urdu department exclusively for Urdu readers with articles contributed by the students and faculty.

 

7. A workbook on functional grammar should be brought for the benefit of new learners by the department of Urdu and the profit derived from the sale could be brought to use for the misc to implement Urdu language and literature as a mainstream course in UG and PG levels (B.A. and

M.A. Urdu literature).

MISSION

The Mission of the Department is to achieve higher goals in life. To bring an awareness about right moral values and cultural heritage, the department of Urdu is imparting knowledge through the reformatory Urdu poems of two great poets Moulana Altaf Hussain Hali and Allama Iqbal, so that they achieve higher goals in life.

In addition to the educational curriculum which is expected to provide a broad foundation of general education and a reasonable amount of specialization, a diversified programme of departmental activities like oratorical, essay writing and cultural and religious – supplements and compliments. The academic study which provides facilities and opportunities for the development of individual talent, personal relationship and creative group life of high moral standards.

The students are trained and equipped in order to be able to transmit their achievements to the betterment of the society. Quality of the highest order is always the aim of this department and every effort is made to achieve it.
