Jean Henry Dunant, the father of Red Cross Movement while going on a business mission to Castiglione saw about 40,000 soldiers wounded and unattended at the battle of Solferino. He forgot his business and started relief operations without any discriminations. It was his attempt which has brought the Youth Red Cross alive. since the first Geneva Conference in 1863. Henceforth  every institute has a Red Cross organization.

Principles of Youth Red Cross

Youth Red Cross has the following three principles:

  • Protection of Health and Life – Health
  • Service to the sick and the suffering – Service
  • Promotion of National and International Friendship, to develop the mental and moral capacities of the youth – Friendship

The Red Cross Society works “to improve the lives of the vulnerable people by mobilising the power of humanity.”

The vision of Indian Red Cross is to become “a leading humanitarian organization serving vulnerable people.”
