The ENVIRO CLUB of the College was established in the year 2007 with an objective to promote sustainable environment through green initiatives and practices in order to create an enhanced living atmosphere.
- The Enviro Club promotes and protects the biodiversity and Eco system through awareness programmes by involving all stakeholders.
- The Enviro Club incorporates energy efficiency measures in all Campus facilities to promote the efficient use of energy.
- The Enviro Club takes initiates to reduce the carbon footprint in the Campus.
- The Enviro Club adopts various sustainable methods of waste disposal and recycling wherever possible.
Step 1: Focus on Environmental Issues:
Develops a sense of responsibility in the students to conserve the fauna and flora of the Campus in keeping with the moto of Enviro Club – “Nurture Nature and Save Future”.
Conducts awareness programmes and competitions on Current Environmental issues and provides a clean and green environment.
Inculcates personal responsibility and emotional connection to nature.
Educates on the judicious usage of water, consequences of water scarcity and creates awareness of issues relating to recycling and reuse of waste water.
Promotes the use of public transport and bicycles to minimize the pollution levels.
Gathers student volunteers as Buddies and Peers to foster values and respect nature in the local community.
Encourage, recognise and enforce sustainable practices in Entrepreneurship and Skill Development of students.
Encourage Outreach programmes like Coastal Cleaning, Cleaning up of Rivers, Lakes, Afforestation and other conservation activities.
Step 2: Green Campus Initiatives:
The Enviro Club enhances the greenery in the Campus by planting more trees.
The Club maintains a pollution free Campus by restricting the usage of plastics and hazardous chemicals.
Encourage staff and students to conserve water and electricity.
The Club creates awareness on global environmental issues like global warming, ozone depletion, pollution hazard through Seminars, Workshops and Competitions.
Maintains Oxygen Zones in prominent places within the Campus.
Composting of leaf litter by vermicomposting and using the same as manure for the plants in the Campus.
Conserving energy by setting up Solar panels, LED bulbs in the Campus.
Reusing the waste water from the Canteen and Mosque for gardening.
Step 3: Waste Disposal Management:
The Enviro Club in accordance with the 3R’s (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) minimize the waste generation at source and through waste management plan for the future changes and mitigates its effects.
Ensures the safe handling and storage of biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes inside the Campus.
The Club adopts the Best Practices in Waste Management viz. provision of colour coded bins, napkin vending machines and incinerators.
The Club ensures the Campus is a “plastic free zone”.
