Report on Alumnae Reunion – FUNFEST held on 19 th August 2023.

The Alumnae Reunion- Funfest for the academic year 2023-2024 was held on Saturday the 19 th of August 2023 in the College Campus from 3.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. Many alumnae from different batches (1960’s, 1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000- 2023) and from various parts of the country and abroad participated in the Alumnae Reunion-Funfest to connect with their alma mater. The meet provided a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with friends and recall their memories. The Theme of this year’s Funfest is “Women Entrepreneurs-FUNTASTIC TIMES AT UTSAV”.

A few Alumnae Entrepreneurs showcased their entrepreneurial skills by putting various stalls of Food, Clothing, Fashion Accessories etc.,

Dr. Athiya Agarwal, a notable Alumna inaugurated the stalls and delivered the Inaugural Address.
The programme began with a prayer by Mrs. Waseema Noor, Assistant Professor, Department of Arabic. The Principal Dr. Amthul Azeez, welcomed the gathering, and Dr. Rayeesunisa, Joint Secretary, Alumnae Association, delivered the Annual Report of the Alumnae Association, highlighting the activities of the Association for the year 2022-2023.

The Alumnae Reunion – Funfest 2023 was marked by the release of the Newsletter JBAS BULLETIN 2023 by the Correspondent Dr. Sanjida Haris who presented the 1st copy to Mr. Faizur Rahman Sayeed, Secretary, S.I.E.Trust, Dr. Sanjida Haris in her address applauded the role of women and their uniqueness.

Our revered Chairman Padma Bhushan Awardee Mr.Moosa Raza delivered the Presidential address through Cisco Webex platform. In his address the Chairman spoke about the great progress the College has made in the last 22 years and advised us not to rest on our laurels as there is a danger of being left behind. The Chairman appreciated the gesture of honouring the Alumnae Achievers and hoped that next year we could honour around ten to fifteen alumnae for the excellent work in their respective fields. The Chairman reiterated that Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become the order of the day and introduce these subjects in the curriculum. The Chairman also quoted a few poets and asked the Alumnae to frequently visit the Campus to inspire the students and bring a revolution in the minds of young women students to learn and achieve more.

Mr. Faizur Rahman Sayeed, Secretary, S.I.E.Trust in his opening remarks spoke about the Islamic Greeting ‘Assalamu Alaikkum’ meaning Peace be upon you, as ‘Peace of mind is the most important thing in life because without peace our life would be miserable. He quoted about the war in Ukraine where normal life has become impossible and the people there yearn for peace. He quoted a Sanskrit sloka which insists on Truth and plain speaking and said that this sloka is loaded with wisdom.

Mr. Faizur Rahman Sayeed, further stated that having education is the ‘proudest asset’ a woman can have and that this college which is the 7th child of his parents strives for women’s education and women empowerment and he wishes to maintain and continue this legacy of his parents, His parents aim and objective was to basically empower women with education so that they can go into the world with their heads held high.

He further reiterated that the students should make use of their education to improve their own lives which in turn will improve their families in particular and the country in general.

He also quoted the first great Business woman in Islam Hazrath Khadija the 1st wife of holy prophet (PBUH) who used to do Export Import Business and had employed our prophet (SAW) as the Manager to look after her business.

The Secretary also stated that the Management often wonders about their students ‘Where are they ? What is the effect they have on Society? How education has changed their lives and so on.

‘Alumnae Reunion’ is the time to rejoice, meet old friends, renew your acquitances and maintain contact with one another. He also spoke about his early life and Education. Mr. Faizur Rahman Sayeed stated that his father has got a “Pattam” in Tamil from Tamil Sangam at Madurai, and our Founder his late Father was well versed in Tamil Literature and Poetry.

Mr. Faizur Rahman concluded his talk by wishing the Alumna move and move with God’s blessings on them and on the College, on the people who helped in the formation of the college and on those who are helping to run it. He also announced that he is no longer the Correspondent of the college and introduced the new Correspondent Dr.Sanjida Haris.

Prominent Alumnae of the institution like Dr.Athiya Agarwal, Director, Dr.Agarwal Eye Hospital, Mrs.Sowmya .C Founder and Managing Partner Chaya Arts and More and Kozzmo Goli Soda, Mrs. Rubeena Afros, Designer, and Ms.Kashifa, Entreprenuer and motivational speaker shared their memories and gave motivating messages in the keynote address.

Dr. Athiya Agarwal promised free eye screening for all the students of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women.

Mrs. Rubeena insisted not to forget and stick to their roots as women are extremely powerful.

Ms. Kashifa gave some crisp tips on resilience and perseverance.


The Highlight of the Alumnae Reunion Funfest 2023 was Silver Jubilee completion of the batch 1994-1997

A cheque of Rs.1,00,000/-(Rupees One Lakh only) a piece of Art work and calligraphed plaque was presented to the Secretary, Mr. Faizur Rahman Sayeed.

The fund of one Lakh was initiated to help and support the students who have ‘Fee pending’. This gesture was highly appreciated by the Secretary.

The names of the Lucky Draw winners were picked from three boxes by Mrs.Kashifa and were called out by Dr. Rayeesunisa, Joint Secretary, Alumnae Association.

Prizes were distributed to the winners by the dignitaries.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Dr.Rayeesunisa, Joint Secretary, Alumnae Association.

The alumnae were treated with a sumptuous dinner arranged by the Alumnae Association in the quadrangle of the campus.

The entire programme was live streamed on the college website for the benefit of many alumnae who were unable to join the Funfest and about 736 Alumnae had registered on online.
