A Report on Alumnae Meet-2024
Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women celebrated its Alumnae Meet
2024 with remarkable exuberance and elegance. The theme,
"Bridging Generations: The Legacy of Excellence – Bharatiya Khel,"
focused on connecting traditions across generations. The event was graced by
the Guest of Honour, Mrs. Bader Sayeed, an alumna from the Class of 1966 and
Chairman of the S.I.E. Trust, who officially inaugurated the Bharatiya Khel
Zone in the Car Parking area.
The Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) initiative within the Ministry of Education
is connected to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The NEP encourages
the inclusion of traditional knowledge, including Indian sports, as part of
efforts to promote physical well-being and cultural awareness in schools and
colleges?. Inspired by this, the theme of this year's Alumnae Meet was chosen.
The college showcased 10 traditional Indian games on campus, including
Palanguzhi, Pambaram, Skipping, Tug of war, and more, to revive and celebrate
India’s rich sporting heritage.
Mrs. Bader Sayeed, with great enthusiasm, participated in a game of
Palanguzhi. Dr. Amthul Azeez, Principal and Correspondent, enjoyed Blindfold
Art, guided by Dr. Mercy Rajasekhar, Controller of Examinations. The Vice
Principals of the Forenoon and Afternoon sessions engaged in a game of carrom.
Alumni and faculty alike relished the opportunity to join the traditional
games, reviving their inner child.
The auditorium events began with a recitation of verses from the glorious
Quran by Ms. Mosina Amrin, a student from the Department of Commerce. Dr.
Amthul Azeez, Principal and Correspondent, an alumna from the Class of 1992,
extended a warm welcome to everyone. She paid homage to the founder of the
institution, Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed, and his wife, Mrs. Fathima Akhtar
Sahiba, for their invaluable contributions to empowering women and
establishing this esteemed edifice of learning.
In her address, Dr. Amthul Azeez, Principal and Correspondent, highlighted the
college’s remarkable progress and its upcoming 75-year milestone. She also
remembered the late Chairman Padma Bhushan Mr. Moosa Raza, S.I.E. Trust &
Former Chief Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir and Secretary to Government of
India with a two-minute silence in recognition of his outstanding service to
the institution. Dr. Amthul Azeez, Principal and Correspondent, fondly
recalled his virtual participation in the previous year’s Alumnae Reunion,
where he spoke about the importance of embracing emerging trends like AI..
Dr. Amthul Azeez, Principal and Correspondent, also spoke about the careful
deliberations behind selecting this year's reunion theme, with the objective
of honouring the college’s sports stars who have represented the institution
at national and international events. Their achievements serve as an
inspiration for current students to take a keen interest in sports. The
welcome address was followed by the presentation of the Alumnae Reunion Report
2023 by Dr. Rayeesunissa, an alumna from the Class of 1989 and the Joint
Secretary of the Alumnae Committee. The theme of the event, “Alumnae Reunion -
Funtastic Times at J.B.A.S.”, brought a lively and engaging atmosphere to the
occasion. As part of the funfest, various stalls offering games, fun
activities, and shopping experiences were set up across the parking zones.
Following the Alumnae Reunion Report, the Newsletter was released. This year's
newsletter showcased the achievements of our alumnae Sports achievers and
articles, poems, and contributions of the alumnae of 1997 Batch. The first
copy was presented by the Chairman, Mrs. Bader Sayeed, to Dr. Amthul Azeez,
the Principal and Correspondent. It was then distributed to the distinguished
members on the dais.
Dr. F. Asiya Khilji, Class of 2022, delivered the keynote address on the
profound impact of sports on personality development. At the outset, she
expressed her gratitude to her beloved alma mater and department for their
constant encouragement and support. She shared her personal journey,
describing how, as a hyperactive child lacking focus, she found her passion in
the sport of shooting. She emphasised that change does not happen overnight
but takes time. What must remain constant are dedication, willpower, and
healthy competition, which play a crucial role in shaping and excelling in
one's chosen path. She emphasized the importance of being highly ambitious,
having the courage to pursue one's goals, and maintaining a strong conviction
to achieve them. Reflecting on her journey, she recalled her mother’s advice,
which constantly resonates with her: "Tum jitna darogi, duniya utni daraaygi"
(The more you fear, the more the world will scare you). She concluded her
address by encouraging students to actively participate in sports, stating
that the untapped potential within each student should be realized and
harnessed.
The keynote address was followed by the Presidential address delivered by Mrs.
Bader Sayeed, Chairman and Class of 1966. She expressed her delight in seeing
six of her batchmates take time to attend the Alumnae Reunion, feeling deeply
nostalgic as she recalled the bygone days. For her, it was truly a “special
day.” Mrs. Sayeed took pride in the accomplishments of the sports achievers
and emphasized the importance of women’s empowerment. She highlighted that
maintaining both body and soul requires regular exercise, and participating in
sports fosters a healthy mind in a healthy body. She also stressed that
alongside the need to empower women, there is an even greater need to empower
men. In her view, men must adapt and learn how to engage with empowered women
in today's society
The Principal and Correspondent honoured Mrs. Bader Sayeed and Dr. Asiya
Khilji with mementos as a token of appreciation. She then officially announced
Mrs. Bader Sayeed as the President of the Alumni Association.
Fourteen of the college's sports stars were honoured with mementos in
recognition of their achievements.

RECENT EVENTS
Report on Medical Health Camp held on 16th December 2023 Organized by
Alumnae Association Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women
With an intention to provide access to medical health and generate general
awareness towards health for the flood affected people by cyclone Michaung
in Chennai, the alumnae association of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed
College for Women conducted a one-day medical camp as part of its Outreach
Programme in collaboration with JM Diabetes Centre, An-Noor Eye Hospital
and Dawood Dentistry at the S.I.E.T Sports Pavilion Hall on 16th December,
2023 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The motto of the Outreach Programme was “Serving Humanity–Securing Health
for Better Tomorrow”. The camp was aimed to help and serve people from the
economically challenged strata of society who required medical attention. A
team of well experienced and highly qualified doctors served the local
community in the vicinity of the college and helped them with their medical
problems.
The Programme began with the welcome address by Dr. Amthul Azeez,
Principal JBAS College for Women. She extended a warm welcome to the
doctors and the gathering. She thanked the doctors who had accepted to
visit the camp on a short notice. Ms. Sofi, a senior Optometrist,
delivered an awareness talk to the public on the right ways of using a
mobile phone. It was followed by an awareness talk given by Dr. Syed
Nafeez, General and Aesthetic Surgeon, highlighted the importance of oral
health and the do’s and don’ts of Oral hygiene. Dr. J Mubarak, Diabetes
Consultant from JM Diabetes Centre focused on the importance of healthy
diet and placed special attention to healthy living. Dr. Rayeesunisa,
Joint Secretary of Alumnae Association and Associate Professor, Justice
Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women delivered the vote of thanks.
In a span of five hours, more than 150 people were benefitted from the camp.
More than 70 people were treated from eye care and about 50 people were
treated for dental problems. Highest number of patients were treated for
general health. The camp was a great success and it helped serve the people
in the locality.
OUTREACH PROGRAMME – 09.03.2023
Alumnae Association of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women
(Autonomous), Chennai, organised an Outreach Program commemorating
International Year of Millets- The Miracle Grain and International women’s day
on Thursday, the 9th March 2023 in the S.I.E.T. Sports Pavilion Hall. The
outreach program commenced with a prayer invoking the blessings of Almighty
Allah.
The Outreach Program was organized to create an awareness of Millets to the
beneficiaries from Baruva Nagar and Sathyamurthy Nagar, Teynampet, Chennai.
And also to commemorate International women’s day. Around 200 women
participated in the programme.
The Guests of Honour were Dr. Sivaraman, Chief Siddha Physician of the Arogya
Healthcare and Mrs. Mallika Badrinath, Entrepreneur, Mallika Home Products and
Alumna, Department of Home Science.
Dr. Shahira Banu, Vice Principal ( FN Session) welcomed the gathering.
Dr. Shahira Banu, Vice Principal ( FN Session) felicitated Dr. Sivaraman,
Chief Siddha Physician of the Arogya Healthcare and Mrs. Khateja Nafeesa,
Assistant Professor of English ( AN Session ) introduced the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Sivaraman, in his address spoke about the importance of millets for a
healthy living and to have a better and healthy future generation. He
emphasized on including millets in our everyday diet for at least twice or
thrice in a week in order to reduce problems like iron deficiency and also
diseases like diabetes and Breast Cancer in women.
Dr. Firdouse Jahan, Vice Principal (AN Session) felicitated Mrs. Mallika
Badrinath, Entrepreneur Mallika Home Products and Alumna, Department of
Home Science, and Dr. J.Ummay Rubab, Assistant Professor of English ( FN
Session) introduced the 2nd Guest of Honour.
Mrs. Mallika Badrinath addressed the gathering in simple language about the
importance of nutritious food for a healthy lifestyle. She helped the audience
understand that millets, the coarse grains are better than our daily staple
food rice and wheat, as it nourishes the brain and provides high nutritive
value to our body.
She helped the beneficiaries by naming a few millets that are easily available
and affordable in the market like ragi (kelvaragu), pearl millet (kambu),
Fenugreek (vendayam) etc and also easy and delicious recipes to make at home.
She said that consuming millets is essential to avoid hormonal problems in
women.
She gifted some of her recipe books entitled “100 Vegetarian Gravies, Classic
Lunch Recipes and 100 Tiffin Varieties” to the institution.
The students of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women performed a
Street play to highlight the importance of Millets for the health and
wellbeing of humanity.
Wellness kits were distributed to all the beneficiaries who had attended the
outreach program.
Dr. Rayeesunissa, Joint Secretary Alumnae Committee, proposed the Vote of
thanks. The meeting ended with the National Anthem.
