DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY


            Adolescence is perhaps the most momentous period in an individual’s journey characterized by immense curiosity, sudden changes in the physical, emotional and social dimension. It is also a period with crisis of anxiety, alienation and confusion. Health is a very important component of the concerns regarding adolescent issues. Malnutrition, Obesity, lack of physical activity and stress are major concerns. The experience gained in this period stays throughout life. In order to create health oriented atmosphere  so that appropriate ambience is added to the needs of the college going children and thereby help in promoting their well being, the Department of Biochemistry felt that a comprehensive adolescent health programme  should be initiated through a Health club. Hence the Department has launched this health club on 23rd February 2009 in the name of late Janaba Fathima Akthar Sahiba who was the first Chairman and Correspondent of this esteemed institution and wife of our beloved Founder Late Janab Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed Sahib.

OBJECTIVES
  • To emphasize on the importance of physical activity
  • To tap the local resources in the community to arrange informative talks on health and hygiene
  • To create help line on health within the college to provide tips on managing stress, coping up with emotional &social behavior and to clarify misconceptions regarding communicable and non communicable diseases and Adolescent health.
  • To inculcate awareness on healthy diet and the positive ways of healthy living and life style among the students.

About the Logo: The glowing apple in the centre of the emblem reflects good health and is a testimony of the famous proverb “An Apple a day keeps the doctor away”.

  • Orientation programme for parents and students on good food habits and balanced diet.

  • Competitions based on Aerobics/Yoga/Swimming.
  • Competitions based on Sports.
  • Fire, Accidents and emergencies.
  • First aid, emergency care for illness or injury.

  • Quiz contest.
  • Visit to orphanage and old age homes.
HEART AWARENESS PROGRAM

In order to create awareness on heart care a comprehensive health programme was initiated through a health club in collaboration with Venkataeswara Hospitals Pvt. Ltd, Chennai on world heart day. Dr. Su. Thillai Vallal, a leading Cardiologist and the founder of Venkataeswara Hospitals highlighted the importance of heart care on world heart day.  A Musical treat was given by Padmasri Dr. T.K. Murthy, a mirdangam player & his team. An oath was also taken by the students and dignitaries to change their food habits and life style to prevent heart related ailments led by Dr. Su. Thillai Vallal. Around 600 students were benefited by this program.
