Alumnae Reunions are great milestones for the College and we conduct it every year. Due to the unprecedented pandemic of Covid-19 where public gatherings are prohibited, our College has conducted the Reunion through a virtual platform. There was live-streaming on YouTube too.
The theme for the Virtual Alumnae Reunion was “Reconnect, Refresh and Rewind”. The Virtual Meet 2020 started by the rendering of verses from the Glorious Quran by Ms. Afraa Shaistha, Department of Physics, Batch 2015 2018.
The Welcome Address was delivered by our Principal Dr.Shanaz Ahamed, who warmly welcomed the Alumnae and was overjoyed that alumnae living abroad could also join the meet. The Pandemic at this juncture proved to be a blessing in disguise.
The Alumnae report was presented by the Alumnae Joint Secretary Dr. Fathima Banu, Associate Professor &Head, Department of English, who shared a PPT with all the highlights of the activities of the Alumnae Association.
An awareness video on Covid-19, created by Dr. S.K. Jasmine Shahina, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology was screened and was appreciated. As an extension activity of the Community Outreach Program brochures were distributed in the neighbourhood for creating awareness on Covid-19.
This was followed by a Special Address given by our illustrious Alumnae,
1. Dr. Roshanara in her message, thanked the college for grooming her personality. She shared a number of photographs of her life in the college as a student, Professor, HOD, First C.O.E. and the first Alumnae Secretary of our College.
2. Dr. Qudsia Gandhi too shared her experiences in the College which had given her a lot of freedom to develop. She emphasized that College days were like childhood days and the best days of her life. She requested everyone to help the people affected by the pandemic.
3. Dr. Indra Subramanian of Ehrlich Lab was happy to be present in the Virtual Meet and shared her experiences in the College.
4. Mrs. Rehana Ameer from London, in her message stated that we ought to have a positive attitude in the current pandemic situation and help everyone to overcome it. She emphasized that nothing is permanent and the times will change for better and the current pandemic situation will soon pass. She highlighted the need for all of us to be techno-savvy.
Next we had the release of the Newsletter titled J.B.A.S BULLETIN by our Chairman, Padma Bhushan Moosa Raza. The Bulletin carried messages from senior alumnae and had colourful pictures of the Department Alumnae Meetings. It also showcased the support rendered by our alumnae in the conduct of Seminars, Guest lectures, Association Meetings etc., The Bulletin also presented Poems written by our alumnae on the pandemic.
This was followed by the Chairman’s Presidential address. In his address, the Chairman quoted a Japanese saying which says that a “Crisis could also become an opportunity”. Relating to the current pandemic situation, he urged the alumnae to face it with a positive attitude. In his message to the Alumnae, the Chairman appealed to them to improve the perception of the College. The New Educational Policy announced by the Government, he said was sure to bring radical changes in the Education System. He requested the Alumnae to give constructive suggestions regarding the same.
This was followed by the Reminiscences of 15 alumnae belonging to the batches ranging from 1973 to 2016. Overall, there were about 900 participants. They shared their fond memories of the college through emotional messages. Many alumnae have shared their nostalgic feelings in their videos too.
These videos have been put up in the college website and YouTube as all of these could not be screened during the meet due to time constraint.
The Programme concluded with a Cultural Program. This was followed with Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Firdouse Jahan, Vice Principal (A.N. Session).
The virtual meet successfully came to an end by the rendition of the National Anthem.
