History
The Department of Tamil is an Integral Part of the Institution since its inception in 1955. The department is flourishing about 8 staff members and around 1500 students, and offer Part-I Language Tamil and Part IV Non-Major Elective to students pursuing other languages.

Vision
- To instil in young minds an appreciation for the classical language, Tamil and its ever-evolving nature. To facilitate an exploration in the rich literature and culture of Tamil from its glorious past to the dynamic present.
Mission
- To ameliorate an all-round language skill. To identify and improve the oratorical/ public speaking skills and creative writing skills of the students. To expose students to the abounding literature of Tamil and to inculcate critical thinking.
Highlights
- Inviting literary luminaries to address/interact with students
- Conducting puppet shows on themes taken from Tamil literature.
- Model making/poster making events for the students to showcase their skill.
