Our department was established in the year 2001 with the strength of 14 students with 2 staff members along with the Department of Mathematics. Department was under Mathematics as Department of Mathematics and Statistics. From, January 2012 department was bifurcated and started working as “Department of Statistics”. Now it has flourished into a department consisting of 93 students and 7 Staff members. Our faculty staff members are competent and qualified to handle all the statistics paper for UG and PG departments. To fulfill the requirements of the job market, the curriculum is revised regularly under the autonomy. The Department maintains constructive relationship with potential employers. The students are encouraged to participate in various Co – curricular and Extra – curricular activities. The Department strives to be a leading provider of superior education in statistics.

The Mission of the Department of Statistics is to help the students to develop their knowledge, Faith and the ability to understand and communicate the results from empirical research in an ethical Manner and to implement Statistical Methodology to strengthen scientific conclusions. The department offers the undergraduate educational experience in Statistics to pursue satisfying and productive careers and qualifies them to enter competitive post graduate programs. It also contributes to the advancement of Statistical Science through peer – reviewed Research, and Collaborate on the pursuit of knowledge across scientific disciplines.
Shreya got the admission to pursue her Master’s in University of Texas at Dallas and H. Niveditha got the admission to pursue her Master’s in Australian National University.
For the past two years, the Students of Department of Statistics were actively participated in Five Days Training Programme on “Official Statistics” organized by National Statistical Systems Training Academy (NSSTA) is a Central Training Institute of the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India.
The Department is known for its Seminars and Workshops were chaired by very well known and popular Scientist, Educationist and Researchers from the field of statistics all over the world.
The students of Department of Statistics are exposed to some of the Current Statistical Tools with Hands – on – Training given by Subject Experts from other Colleges and Industries.
The students are encouraged to do other short term Online Courses to enhance their learning experience and to improve their job skills.
The students have a regular interaction with well known Statistical Analyst from Industries and Institutions such as ICMR and NSSO to understand the various methods of data collection, procedure, analysis and Statistical tools and techniques used.
