DEPARTMENT OF Mathematics
History
The Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1955 with P.U.C. Mathematics and Allied Mathematics. The undergraduate degree program B.Sc. was introduced in 1967 in shift I. An additional section for B.Sc. was introduced in the year 1993-94 in shift II to meet the increasing demand for the subject.
From the time of its inception in 1955, Mathematics was also offered as a supportive subject for most of the departments at the degree levels.
Under the stewardship of Mrs. G. Susila ably assisted by Mrs. T.N. Meenakshi, the Department grew from strength to strength under the stewardship of Dr. (Mrs.) T.V.Kalyani, Mrs. Amina Bibi, Mrs. Ismath Huq, Mrs. Sabirah Parveen and Mrs. Rizwana Shaheen.

The Department organizes National and International Seminars, Workshops and Webinars. Academicians are invited from across the world to share their knowledge and experiences.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of the great Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, the Matrix Club was initiated in the year 2012. Various Inter-class and Intra-class competitions are conducted to enhance the skills and knowledge application in Mathematics.
Inter-collegiate competitions "Sankhya" is also conducted to nurture the hidden talents of the students. Every year, the students pass out of the portals of the college with exemplary academic achievements and awareness of social responsibilities.
Alumnae of the Department have attained high and responsible positions such as tutors, teachers, professors in Universities and Colleges. They are also placed in the I.T. field. They have also received research fellows in India and abroad.
The Department has well qualified experienced faculty having sound knowledge both in the traditional and emerging areas of Mathematics. The students are taught to evaluate situations, draw logical conclusions, reasoning skills and problem solving strategies.
