The Star College Scheme under the auspices of Department of Biotechnology (DBT), New Delhi was initiated in our College for the five undergraduate Departments (Physics, Chemistry, Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology, Zoology and Biochemistry) with the objective of education to improve science teaching across the country. This Scheme focused on improving critical thinking and encouraging ‘Hands-on training” in experimental science at undergraduate level in basic science subjects and to encourage more students to take up higher education in science.

The initial support for the Department of Zoology under the Star College Scheme was for a duration of 3 years (2015 – 2018). In the first phase the department received a non-recurring grant of Rs. 5 lakhs and a recurring grant of Rs. 3 lakhs each year for 3 years. These grants were judicially utilised by the department and many new practicals were included and more number of instruments/apparatus were procured. The grants were utilized for industrial visits, various activities for students, Staff and non teaching staff at both disciplinary and multi-disciplinary levels.
