NSS ACTIVITIES-2023-24
The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of our institution, operating under the Ministry of
Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to
fostering holistic student development through community service. From June 2023 to March
2024, a multitude of impactful activities were organized, each with a distinct focus on social
welfare, awareness, and community development. These initiatives have not only aimed at
enhancing the well-being of society but have also played a pivotal role in nurturing a sense of
social responsibility and leadership among the students involved.
The journey began with the celebration of International Yoga Day in June 2023, where 32 NSS volunteers enthusiastically promoted physical and mental well-being. Shortly after, a Pet Adoption Volunteering initiative in the same month saw 36 students passionately contributing to animal welfare through adoption drives. In a concerted effort to combat drug abuse, a Drug Awareness Rally was organized with 25 students actively participating, spreading crucial awareness about the perils of substance abuse in our society.
July 2023 witnessed the distribution of sanitary napkins by 20 dedicated NSS volunteers, a step towards promoting menstrual hygiene among women. The month also marked the International Tiger's Day, celebrated with a vibrant face painting competition that emphasized the significance of tiger conservation and biodiversity, engaging students in a creative dialogue for environmental preservation.
The momentum continued into August 2023 with the State Youth Festival, organized by the Tamil Nadu Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department in collaboration with the State NSS Cell. Here, 26 volunteers showcased their talents, embodying the spirit of youth empowerment. The Intercollegiate Competition 2023, orchestrated by All India Radio and Ethiraj College to coincide with the G20 summit, saw 16 students displaying their academic and extracurricular prowess, contributing to a vibrant exchange of ideas.
In a bid to equip students with life-saving skills, a First Aid Workshop in August 2023 trained 400 individuals in basic emergency response. Teacher's Day was celebrated through an engaging E-quiz competition, honoring the invaluable contributions of educators to society.
September 2023 was marked by the distribution of palm seeds on NSS Day, a symbolic gesture towards environmental conservation and sustainability. The month also saw impactful rallies, including the Swachh Bharat Rally with 40 enthusiastic participants advocating for cleanliness, and the World Heart Day Rally with 36 students spreading awareness on cardiovascular health and healthy lifestyles.
October 2023 witnessed a resolute stand against corruption as 40 students participated in an Anti-Corruption Pledge and Rally, embodying the ethos of integrity and accountability. The year concluded with the Chennai Marathon in December 2023, where 25 students actively engaged in promoting fitness and community engagement.
January 2024 brought renewed vigor with 46 students participating in the Video Making competition for World Education Day, crafting messages of global educational awareness. The empowerment of the girl child was celebrated through a poster-making competition on Girl Child Day, with 50 students enthusiastically participating. Additionally, 40 students volunteered for a Hockey Match, promoting the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.
As the year progressed, the commitment of NSS volunteers remained steadfast, culminating in the Annual NSS Special Camp held from 19th to 25th February 2024. This immersive experience provided students with an invaluable opportunity for community service and personal growth.
March 2024 saw the observance of World Defence Day,World Water Day,World Anti Discrimination Day.
In reflection, the NSS activities spanning from June 2023 to March 2024 have been a testament to the spirit of service and dedication of our NSS Volunteers. Each initiative has not only left an indelible mark on society but has also nurtured a generation of socially conscious and empathetic individuals. The NSS unit eagerly anticipates the journey ahead, continuing to create positive ripples of change within our community and beyond.
