NSS ACTIVITIES-2022-23
The NSS Unit of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women under the able
leadership of the Principal Dr. Amathul Azeez and four Programme Officers-Dr.Zubaidunisa,Dr.Sameena Banu,Mrs.HIdayath Unnissa,Dr.Bhuvaneswari successfully
organised 31 regular activities,for the academic year 2022-23.
Booker T. Washington once said, "If you want to lift yourself up, lift up someone else." In
keeping with this, NSS volunteers excelled at volunteering, leading, and participating in
several events organised by the college, University of Madras, and NGOs.
The academic year began in June,2022 with Cleaning the Masjid,NSS room and the
pavement followed by a month long Yoga practice sessions.
Ten NSS volunteers participated in the first ever Reverse Run Event held at Besant
Nagar on 22nd July marking the International Plastic Bag Free day.
In the month of August the NSS Secretaries participated in the 75th Independence
Day Celebration held at the University of Madras. Nearly 75 volunteers watched
75th Independence Day Video Screening in the college campus. A Pledge was administered
to raise awareness against Say No to drugs to 30 Volunteers.
An Interdepartmental Poster Making Contest was conducted to celebrate the 75th year of
Independence. Adore India, Adorn India was the theme of a guest lecture and ad zap
competition held in conjunction with Yuva Shakti.
An NSS Orientation Programme to orient the first year students of both AN and FN
sessions was conducted at the Sports Pavilion. 600 students benefited.
A Say No To Drugs - Pledge was administered in accordance with the Government
of Tamil Nadu's directives to be given at the same time the Chief Minister took the pledge at
the Kalavana Arangam. The pledge was taken by 1025 pupils.
Pledges for Social Justice Day and Sadhbhawana Divas were also taken on the
respective occasions.
In August and September, two booster Covid vaccination drives organized in
collaboration with Greater Chennai Corporation helped roughly 87 people. The final activity
of the month was a webinar that was organized in association with the University of Madras,
and the resource speaker was Mrs. Jameela, CWS, who spoke on the subject of "Venerating
Sacrifices Of Freedom Fighters."
In the month of September the NSS unit in association with Lions Club Chennai
Skyline organised a Blood Donation Camp. 122 units of blood was donated by our staff and
volunteers there by contributing to saving lives.
An Online Quiz was conducted to mark NSS Day,Teachers Day.
In Music Academy 'Say No To Drugs' was the theme of the competition where our students
won the cash prize in Slogan writing. The good work of the NSS unit was recognised and
honoured by awarding the ‘Change Maker of 2022’ award.
Our volunteers gained a new perspective from the Disaster Management Workshop
on how to reach out to the public in the event of a disaster.
Nearly 50 volunteers along with the Programme Officers attended a Mega Human
Chain Awareness Green Event organised by DREAM KALAM TRUST in association with
University of Madras NSS Team.A world Record was set of the most signatures on a cloth piece
towards environment awareness on 15/10/2022 at Besant nagar beach.
Our volunteers reached out to the community by volunteering in several social events
organised both on and off the college campus.Our volunteers assisted the Government
School students to fill the Naan Mudalvan Scheme forms,they ensured the smooth conduct
of Chennai Marathon 2023,Marathal Thagumo and Samathuva Pongal Vizha.Volunteering in
these events fostered a sense of social responsibilities among the volunteers.
To have a substantial impact on increasing awareness and promoting a healthier
lifestyle, awareness rallies on No Smoking Day and Cancer Awareness Day, as well as
competitions on issues like Smoking, were organized on campus.
Our Volunteers benefitted from attending the Mushroom Cultivation Workshop.
Attending workshops such as the one mentioned not only contribute to personal growth but
also offer opportunities for sustainable livelihoods and entrepreneurship.
Overall, the NSS units had a productive year, actively engaged in various community
service initiatives and made a positive impact on the society. The dedication and
commitment of the volunteers are commendable.
