NSS ACTIVITIES-2021-22
The year 2021-2022 saw the recruitment of 4 new NSS Programme Officers
viz Dr.Zubaidunisa,Dr.Sameena Banu, Dr.Bhuvaneswari and Mrs.Hidayath
Unnissa Begum. Under the guidance,supervision and constant monitoring of the
four Programme Officers, the academic year 2021-2022 started with a series of
online and offline events. NSS volunteers demonstrated excellence in conducting
and taking part in various events despite the pandemic. The NSS units, faithful to
its motto 'Not Me But You,' have tirelessly helped not only the student community
but also the four adopted areas-Thiruvalluvar Nagar,Barwa Nagar,Sathyamurthy
Nagar and Thiru -vi-ka Nagar.
The academic year began with an Inter-departmental speech competition
conducted on 12th June, 2021 to observe World Day Against Child Labour. Mr.
Khalid Ahmed, founder of Uravugal Trust, Chennai was the judge.
NSS Unit to increase awareness on World Population Day conducted an
online slogan making competition on Rights And Choices. 240 Participants across
various city colleges had taken part in the event.
An online webinar on Population Explosion:Issues and Challenges was
hosted by the NSS Unit on 11 July 2021 by the chief guest and spokesperson,
Dr.M.Ramani.An Olympics-E-Quiz in collaboration with the State Olympic
Association was conducted on 22 July 2021.
Swachhata Pakhwada -Cleanliness Fortnight was observed by the NSS Unit
by conducting events such as SWACHHATA SHAPATH (Pledge of Cleanliness),
Planting of Saplings, Awareness Rally and Poster Making Competition. NSS Unit
in association with Greater Chennai Corporation had organised Covid 19 Free
Vaccination Camp on 3 September 2021. Around 160 beneficiaries had taken the
vaccine.
The Poshan Maah or Nutrition Week was celebrated by conducting a Slogan
Making Competition on the topic Pregnant Women Nutrition Regale raising
awareness on the nutritional requirement of pregnant women. Nearly 60
participants from across various city colleges participated on 11th September and
followed by organising a Nutrition Food Fiesta on 29th September,2021.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav -75th year of Independence was celebrated by
organising Sapling Plantation.The Chief Guest for the event was
Mr.J.Karunanidhi, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of T.Nagar
constituency (DMK).The Distinguished Guest planted the sapling and watered the
plant and also stated that the one who plants the tree, plants hope.
NSS unit in collaboration with the Department of Political Science
organised an online lecture on “Indian Constitution-Reflections Of National
Identity” in commemoration of Constitution Day on 26th November 2021.
NSS unit organised the second free Vaccination camp in association with
Greater Chennai Corporation on December 4th. The guest of honor for the event
was J.Radhakrishnan,Health Secretary for the State of Tamil Nadu.The Chief
Guest addressed the gathering by thanking the college for taking such an enormous
initiative for providing vaccinations to students and encouraged the students to
vaccinate for the betterment of their health,family and society.This initiative was
covered by various media channels like Polimer, Puthiya Thalaimurai etc.
NSS orientation programme was organised in the sports pavilion on 10
December 2021 where 500 freshers had taken part. 50 NSS volunteers had taken
part in Bharathiar Walkathon conducted by Madras University on 11 December,
2021. On 14 January 2022, NSS Unit conducted a poster making contest on
'Arise,awake and stop not until the goal is reached' to commemorate National
Youth Day.
NSS unit in association with Centre for Women's Studies organised a
webinar to mark National Girl Child Day on 24 January 2022. Dr.S Jameela,
associate professor was the spokesperson of the event. To commemorate
International Women' Day on 8 March 2022, NSS wing organised a special talk on
Diabetes and Gynecological Issues and special medical camp with nearly 300
beneficiaries. On 30th of March 2022, 70 NSS Volunteers visited Balaiya School,
Peerkangaranai as part of a Cleaning Drive. The NSS Unit Organised a Free Eye
Camp on 19 April 2022 in collaboration with Shankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital
for cataract screening.Around 250 people attended the camp and 40 of them were
diagnosed for cataracts and were assured cataract surgery free of cost in Shankara
Nethralaya.
NSS Special Camp(22-28th March,2022) provided an ideal platform to the
NSS volunteers.The camp honed their innate talent,moulded their
personality,taught them necessary life skills and boosting their confidence and so
forth.The camps activities included motivational and inspirational talks on
instilling self-esteem,ethics,integrity and professionalism,dental camp,legal
awareness programme to benefit the adopted areas, a session on fabric painting and
embroidery to benefit the campers as well as women of the adopted areas.The
volunteers reached out to the Vanniya Chennai High School,Teynampet taking up
various tasks like automation of 1000 books of the school library, cleaning their
library and reading rooms,motivating the students of grade 6,7,8 and 9.The
volunteers were delighted to complete all the chores assigned to them.
