The Inauguration of Consumer Rights Association was held on 4th September 2018 by Mr. Arunkugumaraj Subramaniam, Advocate and Founding Director of Arunkugumaraj & Associates. He enlightened the students concerning consumerism, consumer rights, law relating to consumer rights and consumer protection Act. He also created awareness among the students regarding adverse effect of competition, anti-competition practices and also explained the procedure as how to lodge complaints in the Consumer Court. The Office bearers of the academic year 2018-19 were selected and given the badges in honor of being the student members of Consumer Rights Association.

An awareness Programme on the topic Waste management was organized.by the Consumer Rights Association on 13th December, 2018. Kripa Ramachandran, Researcher, Urban Governance Team, Zero waste Cities Collaborative Project, Civic Action Group delivered a very informative talk on the disposal of waste and the harmful effect of plastic waste. She also explained the waste disposal mechanism and the consequences of improper waste management on humans, aquatic beings, etc and highlighted on Reducing, Refusing and Recycling the materials before the ultimate disposal. She exhibited the progress of their team in conducting different researches, their accomplishments so far and their preferred platforms of social interaction while citing the challenges and setbacks that confronted them. She instigated the audience to adopt eco-friendly practices and ignite a spark of change in one’s life and the society.

In collaboration with Citizen and Consumer Civic Action Group (CAG) a Road Safety Audit was conducted in the college campus for two days, on 12th and 13th of February 2019. The audit was conducted by student volunteers of CRA. The Audit was done in the form of a survey from 07.30 to 8.15 in the morning and from 12.30 to 1.15 in the afternoon. During the survey the total number of two wheelers entering into the college campus wearing and not wearing the helmets was recorded and also the total number of cars entering the campus and the number of car drivers and front seat passengers not wearing the seat belt was counted. The survey was completed successfully.

Inter departmental competition was organized on 26th February 2019 to encourage the students to participate in the events on topics, unethical advertisement, sustainable consumption and food adulteration. Two On stage events, Mime and Street play and two Off stage events- Poster making and Slogan writing was conducted. Eminent personalities Savitha, Member of Consumer Protection Team and Mr. Joseph Dominic, Executive Secretary, FEDCOT India, National Consumer Movement were the Judges for the events. Judges enlightened the students by their inspiring speeches.
