JBAS College for Women is delighted to announce the Alumnae Reunion 2026, an occasion to reconnect with our esteemed alumnae and celebrate the enduring bond with our alma mater.

This year, the reunion will be held on 19th September 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Theme of the Reunion:
"Echoes of Excellence - Celebrating the Legacy of Leadership"

We invite interested alumnae to contribute to the newsletter by sharing:

  • Articles or write-ups on their achievements and awards.
  • Reminiscences of their college days.
  • Poems.
  • Paintings and sketches.
  • Any other noteworthy contributions or accomplishments.

DEPARTMENT OF Commerce

Profile of the Department:

The Department of Commerce, established in 1990, holds the distinction of being the first department under the self-financing stream of the college. With just 50 students in its inaugural batch, the department began its journey under the able leadership of

Mrs. Meenakshi Thiyagarajan, the first woman Commerce graduate from the University of Madras.

Over the years, the department has grown remarkably and continues to maintain a premier position in terms of student strength and popularity. The department has grown by leaps and bounds and currently offers three undergraduate programs and one Post Graduate Program: –

  • B.Com. (General)
  • B.Com. (Accounting & Finance)
  • B.Com. (Honours)

 

To meet the rising demand for postgraduate education, the department launched the M.Com. (General) program in the academic year 2017–18.

The department has a vibrant team of 23 teaching faculty, and the majority of them are appointed as per UGC norms and has a part-time research supervisor supporting research initiatives

The department actively promotes holistic student development through academic and extracurricular excellence. Known for its excellence beyond the classroom, the department actively promotes students participation in sports and cultural activities, while also gaining hands-on experience through seminars, workshops, industrial visits, and guest lectures by leading industry professionals. It also offers certificate courses in emerging areas of business to equip students with relevant, up-to-date skills.

The department actively promotes holistic student development through academic and extracurricular excellence. Known for its excellence beyond the classroom, the department actively promotes students' participation in sports and cultural activities, while also gaining hands-on experience through seminars, workshops, industrial visits, and guest lectures by leading industry professionals. It also offers certificate courses in emerging areas of business. With a strong focus on inclusive education, the department supports a large number of first-generation learners (35%) and students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds (65%).

To strengthen the Industry-Institution interface, the department has signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with reputed organizations. These collaborations aim to provide students with greater exposure to industry practices, internships, training programs, and expert guidance and department also has a dedicated library facility to cater to the academic needs of the students, in addition to access to the main college library. The Department Library houses a collection of over 1,000 books relevant to the field of commerce, supporting both curriculum-based learning and reference need
