DEPARTMENT OF Commerce

History

The Department of Commerce was the first department to be established under the self financing stream in the year 1990. The Department started with a humble beginning of 50 students in the first batch under the stewardship of Mrs. Meenakshi Thiyagarajan, the first lady commerce graduate from the University of Madras. Since then, there has been no looking back for this Department; it has grown from strength to strength. Today twenty seven years, hence, it still holds the top position in terms of students’ strength and popularity.

The objectives of the department are:

  • To provide academic knowledge based on current industry updates
  • To widen the horizons of commerce education by conducting workshops, seminars, conferences etc.
  • To empower women students to become economically emancipated citizens
  • To train and equip women students to transmit their achievement to the betterment of society

The Department is industriously running three courses in the UG stream viz., B.Com. (General), B.Com. (Accounting & Finance) and B.Com. (Honours).
