The Centre has the distinction of being the first UGC sponsored Centre among the Colleges in the Chennai City. The objectives of the Centre are Teaching, Training, Research and Advocacy. The Centre has continuously expanded its scope and creatively responding to the needs of staff, students and women.

The Centre has good infrastructural facilities and a two Non-Major Elective Papers for the UG Students of the Forenoon session under the CBCS.
The Centre regularly organizes Special Lectures, Seminars, Workshops, Conferences and Training program Research in women’s Studies is the major thrust area of the Centre.
The Centre involves in creating awareness on social legislation Constitutional guarantees government Policies and programmes available for the development of women.
