DEPARTMENT OF Historical Studies


The Department of History was established in the year 1967 and the Department was headed successively by eminent intellectuals passionate about History. Our department aims in fostering knowledge in History to students through classroom lectures, seminars, conference, symposium, Audio-Visual assisted learning, debates and projects. This in turn would enable Students to appear for the Union and the State Public Service Commission Examination and get selected in various other services. Thus the department aims in creating confident, competent citizens of tomorrow.



To offer estimable value and to inculcate the spirit of compassion, commitment, humanism and cultural heritage with a view to train and equip our women students the urge to be good citizen of the Nation. History curriculum offer academic programs with contemporary relevance with inbuilt modules for character and skill building.



Our mission is to encourage, economically, educationally backward women students, who will be able to empower economic independence and make them to face the challenges of the society. We provide knowledge, skill and moral values to enhance the academic excellence of the students and fulfill their social, economic, political and ethical duties.


  • Regular revision of syllabus in 2015 and 2018 to cater to the contemporary needs and Job connect.
  • Introduction to Skill Based subjects like Historiography and Research Methodology.
  • New exposure to students like Value Added Course on Archives and Online Courses.
  • Students are given enough balance between curricular and co curricular activities like sports, Inter-departmental and Intercollegiate competitions, as members of various clubs and associations for the development of holistic personality.

Chief Guest Dr.Bernad Sami,Associate Professor of History,Loyola College, Chennai, Mr.V.N.Swamy,Senior Journalist, Thirunelveli, Mr.C.M.N.Saleem, Editor, Samuga Neethi Murasu, Chennai, spoke about shed light on the Unsung Muslim heroes of India’s Freedom Struggle. Their sacrifices which went unheed and unnoted were mentioned in State Level Seminar on 21st February 2015.
