History

The Department of Economics is one of the earliest and full-fledged departments of Justice Basheer Ahmed Sayeed College for Women since its inception in the year 1955.  Over the years, the department has grown as one of the largest departments with more than 450 students.  Mrs. Sudha Srinivasan M.A. was the Founder Head of the Department.  She was one of the Founder Teacher of this college. Dr. (Mrs.) Jabeen Ara Begum M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D, is the present Head of the Department. Our department is offering B.A. Corporate Economics from 2003 to keep in tune with the emerging trends in education to meet the demands of the job market.  The Department also trains the students to cope up with the fast changing environment by making them highly competent in strengthening the academic priorities of the students.  The Department is well co-ordinated with staff strength of ten.  The sincere and dedicated faculty of the Department is responsible for our good academic record over the years.  The support and encouragement of the management has inspired the staff and students.  The Department thrives to reach standards of excellence in teaching, research and consultancy.

• To achieve excellence in teaching, acquisition, development and dissemination of knowledge in corporate economics and to maintain higher standards of imparting moral values, ethics and commitment towards achieving social responsibility in students and address emerging global challenges.

• To offer quality education to socially, economically backward and minority students in the field of Economics. To provide a curriculum rich in employability and entrepreneurial skills to become accomplished citizens capable of critical thinking and independent analysis with high moral values.

Highlights

The department organizes Seminars and Conferences to create awareness and sensitize students on the current economic, political and social affairs which enhances their subject as well as general knowledge.

The department admits students from socially and economically backward strata and produces 99-100% result in the final year.

The department offers subjects that inculcates the employability skills and enhances critical thinking and cognitive skills of the students which integrates values and entrepreneurial skill development for women students.
