Year 2019 – 2020

The inauguration of the Physics Club for the year 2019-2020 was held on 8th August 2019. The Chief guest Dr. BalajiMuthusubramanian, from University of Cologne, Germany delivered a video conferencing lecture on the basics of Astronomy and Astrophysics. The office bearers of the Physics Club for the year 2019-2020 were presented with their badges by the Controller of Examination Dr. Mercy Rajasekar.

Activities for the physics club were held on two days between the students of the department.

The first activity was conducted on 9th October 2019 in the Library reading hall includes various events like Pictionary, Quiz, What happens next, Adzap and Three Monkeys. Prizes were announced for the winners.

Second activity was conducted on 12th December 2019 in the seminar hall in which a science fiction movie “INTERSTELLAR” directed by Christopher Nolan was screened to the students. The overall feedback from the students for the Physics club activity was highly satisfactory.

The valedictory of the physics club was conducted on 29th January 2020. The chief guest of the day was Dr.T.Prakash, Assistant Professor, National Centre for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, University of Madras, Guindy campus. Our COE Dr. Mercy Rajasekhar also graced the occasion.The Chief Guest gave a speech on the basics of the crystal structure like amorphous solids and crystalline solids. He also gave an insight on the synthesis and characterization of nanocrystals. Microscopic images of crystals taken with the help of electron microscope were also shown in the presentation.
