History

CORONA 2012 - Physics Intercollegiate meet on 14.12.2012 Campaiging by Abinaya of II B.Sc Physics.

In the year 1955, with the establishment of the college, Physics was introduced as one of the subjects at PUC level. Later Physics was offered as an allied subjects to B.Sc., Chemistry in 1957 and for B.Sc., Mathematics in 1967.  A full-fledged B.Sc., Physics course was established in 1988 with the introduction of under graduate course in Physics.  The course in Physics was started with student strength of 24 in 1988 and gradually increased to a strength of 50 in the year 2003.

 

MISSIONED VISION OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department strive with an object to create an environment in which the interest and love for physics could he nurtured in every student.  The training imparted to the students ensures her an overall growth and development to prepare her for the various challenges of life.

Students Achievements (Batch 2012-2015)

Mohideen Fathima, Ayesha Siddiqua and K.Suriya from III B.Sc., Physics won III prize in Matrix club conducted by Department of Maths.
K.Yuvarani of III B.Sc. Physics, Suganya, Manimegalai of II B.Sc. Physics and Hajira, Divya of I B.Sc. Physics participated in the inter department culturals held on 22.01.2015 and won III place in Dance competition.
In Quiz, Senthamizharasi and Thamizselvi of II B.Sc. Physics won II prize.
A.Najmunissa Begum, K.Fathima Begum and K.Suriya of III B.Sc. Physics students won III place in Throwball.

Activities

Two workshops conducted as part of Diamond Jubilee celebrations

 

a) One day workshop for teachers titled” Modern experiments for Physics laboratory” organized by Dept., of Physics in collaboration with Indian Association of Physics Teachers on 12th February 2015 at 9.00 am in the Physics Laboratory. The chief guest for the function was Prof.T.S.Natarajan, Dept., of Physics, IIT Madras, President, IAPT-RC13.

 

b) One day workshop for students titled “Solar energy based photovoltaic power assembly and Testing” organized by the Dept., of Physics as part of “CORONA” Intercollegiate programme held on 13th February 2015 at 8.00 am in the physics laboratory. The resource person was Mr.G.K.Shanmuga Sundaram, Chemical and solar power consultant GEMCO Renewable Energy Training Institute, Chennai.
