Department of Chemistry

History

chemfest Sigma - 2010

The Department of Chemistry started in 1955 with the establishment of our college. The undergraduate course was started in 1957, with Ms. C. Sarojini and later with Ms. Susan George as the head of the department. Our staff members train and equip women students from economically and socially backward communities with education of the highest quality so that they may lead responsible and purposeful lives and transmit their achievement to the future generation. We are very glad to say that the Department has produced more than 6000 chemistry graduates. Many of them are working in high positions in different fields as professors, scientists and chemists. At present more than 20 of our alumnae are serving as teaching staff in different departments in our esteemed institution. Our Department’s  Motto is

            “Coming together is a beginning,
             Keeping together is progress,
             Working together is success.”

Admission procedure

Every year once the higher secondary course results are declared our admission procedure commences with the registration of the filled-in application forms. Spot admission is done based on the percentage of the students. Every year cut-off marks are fixed for the admission process for Category-I (Muslim students) and Category-II (non-muslim students). Based on the cut-off admission is done.

The teachers also interact with the students to test the depth of knowledge and communication skills of the students. The parents are required to be present during the entire admission procedure. The filled-in details of the application forms are checked by the staff-in charge for the admission and verified by the HOD and the Principal. The admission forms and the details of the students are computerized.
