Department of BioChemistry

History

The Department of Biochemistry started in the year 1996 with Dr.Shamsia Banu as the Head  and since then it has always endured to keep its students on par with recent trends in this rapidly evolving field. In the same year Vocational Biotechnology was introduced by UGC. The Department is offering  UG Course in two streams  - Biochemistry (General) and Biochemistry with Vocational Biotechnology. From year 2007, the Department is headed by Dr. (Mrs.) A. Zeenathunnisa and it  has been functioning with distinctions and has made rapid straits in teaching.

The Department has well equipped laboratories and provides an ideal platform for clinical and enzymology experiments. A one month internship training program has been provided in the final semester under the guidance of the faculty to horn their technical skills, make them self confident, carreer oriented and develop marketable skills. It regularly organizes workshops, National and International conferences by inviting eminent scientists/Academicians from reputed Institutions/Universities/Organizations in order to facilitate the student community to interact, enrich and update their scientific knowledge in research.

The Department also organizes Health club to emphasize on the importance of health and create awareness about communicable and non communicable diseases by arranging invited lectures from eminent doctors. Field visits to industries and research institutes are also arranged regularly. The Department is conducting an outreach program by keeping an objective to extend hands to the society, to popularize science among the school students and to create awareness about health and hygiene among adolescent and  aged  people.
